camp vargas ~the happening returns~ 2-3 "a glorious time"

Location: Dwarfs’ Mine - Lakeside

Grim: Now for the bunch that’s tryin’ to catch fish…

Kalim: Oh, hey, Yuu and Grim! Here to check on us?

> Catch anything yet?

> How’s it going?

Cater: A toootal bust over here. I even had bait attached.

Lilia: And I’m out of sorts with the weather being so pleasant. We're just fortunate we have Jade.

Jade: There’s my fifth fish. I'd like to capture approximately 30 more to have enough food for three days and preserves.

Grim: You’re actually fishin’ for real, huh. Floyd was catchin’ ‘em in the lake.

Cater: Uh, like. By hand? Sooo, he became a merman?

Kalim: Sounds great! Might as well swim while you're here.

Jade: Ah, yes… That sounds just like something Floyd would do.

Having to fish up such small amounts must’ve seemed like a tedious task.

But I'm not going to approach things that way, especially while we’re in the mountains.

This isn't just any lake; it's a mountain lake. You can feel the mountain’s energy coursing through you even as you sit here.

Listening to the gentle rustle of the trees while basking in the sun, your line on the water's surface… It’s a glorious time.

Grim: You brothers are as different as night and day…

Lilia: Jade’s right. Moments like these are what make the mountains so alluring. Although I absolutely believe the fishing part’s way more fun…

Cater: You got any tips or tricks? I mean, none of the bait or gear we're using are the same.

Jade: It’s simple, really. All you have to do is learn how fish think.

Everyone: ……?

Grim: The heck’s that ‘sposed to mean?

Jade: Simply put, I suppose, I think you need to be familiar with the ecology and behavior of fish.

Apparently, there’s a high concentration of nocturnal fish in this lake.

They hide behind rocks and in plants to avoid the sunlight. You can easily catch them if you focus on their weaknesses.

Kalim: Seriously? I’ve been aiming at sunny spots in the middle of the lake this whole time.

Jade: Also, while nocturnal fish are often extremely near-sighted, their visual acuity is very good.

For that reason, I'll have to show you how to reel in your rod like it's bait. If you jerk it too quickly, you'll surprise them, so—slowly.

Lilia: Hoh. I never thought how the fish's retina might react.

Cater: Oookay. Time to test this theory.

Aim for the shade, go slowly, and…

Tug!

Cater: Ohh, I got a bite!

Jade: It’s good to wait a moment before pulling on the rod. That makes it easier to hook the fish’s mouth.

Kalim: I’m gonna fish too. How ‘bout over here?

SPLASH!!

Kalim: Wha?!

Cater: Was that a rock? I was ready to reel one in when it got away.

Kalim: Did some other club finish early and now they’re splashing in the lake?

Lilia: Those are no men. Take a look over there.

Cater: That fairy’s what threw the rock?

Kalim: Did we do something to make them mad?

Lilia: Maybe they’re simply playing around.

Jade: That said, at this rate, they’ll obstruct our challenge. Let’s have them kindly move aside.

Kalim: Sorry, guys, but we need you to clear out for a sec!
