scary monsters ~endless halloween night~ 4-3 "under what circumstances"

Location: The Other Dimension - Bizarre Staircase

They step into a blinding white nothing.

Location: The Other Dimension - Forest of Screams

Silver: Now we’re in a forest…!

Jack: We stepped through that door and ended up in another place altogether.

You told me what happened already, but it’s… hard to wrap my head ‘round the abrupt scene change. The Ghost Realm sure is somethin’ else.

Jamil: Watch it. Get spooked and they’ll possess you. You don’t want to expose your crying face to the world again.

Jack: Wh… I’m… I’m not lettin’ a single ghost read me ever again!

Besides, I’m used to the woods! Leave it to me.

Silver: Used to it?

Jack: Yeah. I’m from a northern region in the Shaftlands, raised in the heart of the forest.

I know where an enemy can hide, the most dangerous spots, and areas where it’s easiest to be spotted—like the back of my hand.

Silver: Really. That makes us the same.

Jack: Err. You were raised in the woods too?

Silver: I was. You see, a long time ago—

Jamil: Hold it.

Silver: Hm?

Jamil: Is this another tale about a hero, or maybe, your father?

Silver: No. This is based on my own experience.

Jamil: Phew. I thought you had another crazy story to tell us. A real-life situation can’t be that weird.

Continue. It’ll keep you awake.

Silver: Your concern is appreciated. I was starting to get a little tired.

… I was raised in a small home in the mountains a ways from the castle town of Briar Valley.

My father loves to travel, and sometimes I’d be alone for long periods of time.

I often had to watch the house by myself.

There were no other homes nearby, but the forest was so bountiful that I was never lonely.

Jamil: A kid home alone? It had to be peaceful there.

Jack: Must’ve been a real safe, open environment.

Silver: It was. In fact, every day felt fulfilling.

In the morning, I would train, and in the afternoon, clean and wash.

Then, I’d catch fish in the lake, plow the fields, and tend the crops.

Gather strawberries in the forest, play with my animal companions…

One time, I even fought with a bear.

Jamil: Hang on!

Jack: A bear?!

Silver: That’s right.

Jack: That’s the complete opposite of safe!

Jamil: That last part blew everything you told us out of the water. Under what circumstances would you—

Silver: Wait. Be quiet!

Ghost A: Lalalala~♪. Oh where oh where could those mirror shards be?

Jack: There’s a ghost!

HEY! I’ve got to pay you back for earlier!

Ghost A: Err, I’m sorry? Perhaps you’re barking up the wrong ghost.

Jack: You must be one of the host’s stooges if you’re lookin’ for mirror shards. Don’t think I’m gonna pull my punches!

Silver: This is bad. Jack’s starting a fight. We should back him up!

Jamil: I was curious about what would happen next… Nice timing, Jack.

Fine. Let’s end this swiftly!
