camp vargas! ~spring happening~ 5-17 "what i learned"

Location: Dwarfs’ Mine - Silent Woods

Crowley: It’s almost time, Vargas-sensei.

Vargas: Right. Though not a lot of students have assembled yet, by the look of it.

So where are they loafing around right about now…?

Ruggie: Sorry about the wait!!!

Crowley: Why, there you are. You just barely made it back in time.

Vargas: What took you boys so long?

Ruggie: Y’see… —a monster showed up!

Vargas: Monster?

Ruggie: I swear!

Sebek: We ventured into the mines some time ago to search for the missing Deuce, but…

A creature unlike any I’d ever seen came for us.

Floyd: And like, that thing was pretty stubborn, so…

By the time we realized, it was already this late.

Vargas: I see… So that’s what went down, huh. You were late because you were fighting a monster…

Like I’d fall for that flimsy excuse!!

Everyone: ?!

Vargas: To think you tried to cover up your tardy behavior by deceiving me with such a petty lie…

You bring me to tears! Your muscles are weeping with me!!

Did you even learn anything at Camp Vargas!?

Crowley: Now, now, Vargas-sensei.

Nevermind the lies they told… Take a good look at their eyes.

They’re keen, and attentive, as if they’ve recently gone through some life-threatening ordeal.

Unsurprisingly, they grew a good deal during their stay at Camp Vargas.

I’m looking forward to the next excursion.

Vargas: Hah hah hah! Jumping the gun, are we?

… All right, you lot. Scamper on back to your clubs.

We’ll be heading back to the academy shortly!

Ruggie: Whoa, whoa—why’d you just fast-forward that conversation?! If you’ve got a sec, Vargas-sensei—

Leona: Let it go, Ruggie.

There’s no convincing that muscle-headed idiot when he didn’t see it for himself.

Ruggie: Y-Yeah, but!

Leona: Arguing with him’s a waste of time.

That was pretty much decided when we chose not to warn Vargas.

Ruggie: Seriously…?

Pans away.

Grim: Why’s Vargas gotta be so difficult…?

Jack: It’s got to be tough to digest what we’re telling him.

I mean, we didn’t even believe Deuce when he told us that story about the monster.

Deuce: For real. Besides, it’s crazy that we were attacked by a monster like that for a second time…

Pans away.

Jamil: … Well? What really happened up there?

Ace: Like. I. Said!

We seriously had a monster encounter! Right, Floyd-senpai?

Floyd: … Sigh. It was the first time in ages I had such a fun fight, and like, maybe this whole thing ended way too fast…

But don’t these occurrences just mean camping on land’s the best?

I wanna do it again. Maybe I’ll tag along with Jade next time he goes hiking.

Or maaaybe, we could change where the Basketball Club’s going for their next training camp…

Ace: He isn’t listening to me at all!!

Pans away.

Silver: Sebek. Dealing with a monster must’ve been rough.

Sebek: Hmph! Not in the least. It was nothing, really.

Silver: I see. You had no problems at all. In other words…

Riddle: This “monster” of yours is some overblown exaggeration.

Everyone’s testimony of what happened feels off point, given the rather abstract way you described it.

Sebek: T-That’s merely due to us being unable to identify exactly what it was…

Riddle: What actually transpired? Was it a wild boar that charged you?

Still, to have slain such a beast is a formidable feat. You should be proud.

Sebek: That’s not what…

Kh… It’s clear at this point that no one believes a word I’ve said!

I want to see the Young Master and Lilia-sama already…

They’re sure to lend me their ears and actually listen to me sincerely!

Pans away.

Ruggie: Ughhh! The reward totally wasn’t worth it.

Leona: What, are you going to complain about that forever?

Ruggie: Well? I missed out on a chance to make money hand over fist, okay?!

Even the gems we were using…

Jack-kun and the others were all, “stealing is bad” and told on me…

This was pretty much the worst event ever, right, Epel-kun?

Epel: I had a lot of fun, actually… I guess?

Ruggie: Uh… really?

Epel: This was the first time I ever got to spend so much time with you and everyone else in our club, so…

I learned a whole lot and had so many different new experiences.

Ruggie: Learn, huh… Well, when you put it that way.

If I ever get called on to go camping again, I’m gonna find a way to be absent no matter what.

That’s what I learned at Camp Vargas!!
