Ghost A: Egads! What’d we do to deserve this treatment?!

Jack: Tch. He sure beat a quick retreat.

Jamil: I don’t sense any other enemies nearby… Alright, Silver. Let’s hear the rest of that story!

Silver: About my living in the woods? It’s just small talk, but…

Gasp. Are you trying to get to know me, like when you grilled me on the hero’s tale?

Otherwise, Jack, who just joined us, will find us unreliable as allies.

Jamil: Uh, sure. But enough of that, just continue.

Silver: My old man was gone for about two weeks when I was… ten years old, I think.

I disobeyed his orders and fell asleep while jerky hung from a tree in our field.

When I woke the next morning, something had ransacked the meat and left behind enormous claw marks.

After developing a taste for it, it came sniffing around the house every day for more.

At first, it only came at night, but it gradually appeared earlier and earlier, becoming bolder by the day.

First it broke the fence, then our storeroom, and last but not least, left scratches upon our door.

Jack: Sounds terrifyin’... Weren’t you home alone at the time?

Jamil: What was that?!

Jack: Ghosts don’t make any noise, so it… it’s got to be… 

Jamil: A B-BEAR?!

Jack: … Err. My bad. It’s just my tail smackin’ the grass.

Jamil: Don’t scare me like that!

Silver: I went outside to look one day, just as terrified as you two are right now, and came face to face with the bear.

Jamil & Jack: And in that moment… ?!

Silver: We became friends.

Silver: That bear was searching for food for its cubs.

It was starving, even. Apparently it wasn’t too good at catching fish, for a bear.

So I took it to the hills where fruit grew, and the rivers where my father and I caught fish, and helped it gather food.

The bear would then occasionally bring the cubs to meet me as a token of appreciation.

They were fantastic training partners for me when I was young.

I wonder how they’re doing now…

Jack: Uhm… you think Silver-senpai’s tryin’ to be funny, or… or what.

Jamil: I feel you. I literally just can’t tell.

Jack: I thought he was gonna tell us a heroic tale where he drove off a ferocious beast…

Jamil: Still, if what he did say is true… then he accomplished a far more arduous feat.

Jack: T-That’s true… 

Jamil: The unusual way in which you control the pace and mood of your stories reminds me of Kalim.

Silver: I swear you did the exact same thing in that valley, Jamil.

Listen. At this point, those ghosts fear us.
