camp vargas! ~spring happening~ 2-1 "simple, right?"

Location: Dwarfs’ Mine - Forest
Grim: Heeey, Magift Club!
Epel: Oh. It’s Grim-kun and Yuu-san.
Grim: We came to see how you were doin’. And since you’re in the forest, that means…
You’re workin’ on collecting firewood to make that campfire, right?
Epel: Yeah. We just finished under Ruggie-san’s instruction.
Grim: Y’don’t say… uh, hey—there’s little branches and leaves mixed in there.
Won’t they burn up real quick?
Ruggie: Exactly.
It’s harder to light a fire with thick, quality firewood, even if it’ll burn for a good while.
That's why we’re stuffing in real flammable stuff like dry branches and pine tree leaves.
Grim: Huh. That makes sense…
Epel: But what about the actual fire, Ruggie-san?
It’s a harder than it seems when we have no matches or lighter and can’t use magic…
Ruggie: Nah, it’ll be easy.
I’ll show you back at the campsite.
Location: Dwarfs’ Mine - Campsite
Leona: You’re back.
Grim: There you are, Leona. So you’ve been doin’ aaabsolutely nothing ever since they set up those tents, huh.
Leona: You got a problem, furball?
Grim: Not a one..
Epel: So. How were you going to light a fire without a match or lighter, Ruggie-san?
Ruggie: First I’m gonna lay out these stones on the dry ground… then stack a little foliage that catches fire easily on top.
Then we take this white rock I picked up near the lake and a steel file.
Grim: Steel file? Did you bring that from home or somethin’?
Ruggie: No way. I borrowed it from a toolbox when we were setting up.
Scrape the rock and file together aaand…!
Crackle… crackle!
Epel: Whoa! Sparks just flew!
Grim: Hey, look! The leaves started to burn!
Ruggie: It worked. Now all we’ve gotta do is move the flames to the thick firewood while being alert to the flow of air.
See? Simple, right?
Everyone: That’s awesome~!!
Epel: Understanding firewood and how to start fires… You’re really experienced when it comes to camping, Ruggie-san.
Ruggie: Shishishi. Why not give me something to go with that praise, huh?
But I’d say it’s more survival skills than anything.
I just kind of picked up on a lot of things back when times were really desperate.
Anyway, we started the fire. Heeey, Ghost-san!
Ghost A: Oh! You managed to build a campfire.
Challenge cleared! Here, take this Vargas Badge.
Ruggie: Nice. We got one right off the bat!
Ghost A: The campfire’s necessary for keeping warm at night, and it’s also used in some of the other challenges.
So be careful not to let it go out.
Ruggie: Got it.
Well, if we build up the fire enough it should be able to withstand even gusts of wind.
Leona: What’re you giggling like schoolgirls for?
Ruggie: Huh?
A wood faerie appears.
Ruggie: A faerie?!
Grim: What’s up with these guys?!
Magift Club Member A: T-They weren’t here a minute ago, were they?
Magic Club Member B: Yeah. It came out of nowhere. Where the heck did you come from?!
Epel: Ruggie-san… don’t these faeries look angry to you?
Ruggie: That’s the vibe I’m getting too. Wonder what happened…
Leona: Obviously because you built that fire.
Ruggie: Wha? You’re saying it’s my fault?! But, why would... ugh, I’ll figure it out later!
We’ve gotta get rid of them first!
