Birthday Suit 1

“Happy Birthday” - Floyd Leech

> Happy Birthday.

Floyd: Ah, Shrimpy-chan came to celebrate our birthday too, huh. Thanks. 

“How do you feel about your celebration?”

Floyd: It’s loud and super fun.

We had birthday parties back home, but they were never this hopping.

I like ‘em more when they’re casual like this.

“Is it true that you always have something sweet to eat in your room?”

Floyd: What, you don’t? Don’t you get hungry at night after dinner?

Jade and I happen to be growing boys.

“What’s your favorite treat?”

Floyd: Hmm… it’s usually whatever I’m feeling that day...

For a while, it was peppermint candy.

And a week ago it was melon-flavored gummies and just yesterday it was these almond biscotti cookies I ate.

As far as taste goes, I like the chewy stuff more, I guess… oh, and whatever’s only available on land.

Gimme any weird candy you find, okay? 

“Got it. By the way, what’s your favorite food in general?”

Floyd: Thaaat would be… —takoyaki~! Got any idea what that is?

Whoa, you do? The guys at school didn’t know much about it, but you really know your stuff, huh?

Me and Jade and the other guys at Mostro Lounge had some the other day after school.

It can be pretty tough to roll ‘em over, but I’ve done it sooo many times now that I’m awesome at it.

I’m never gonna get tired of it, either. Takoyaki might mean fried octopus, but you can enjoy all kinda alternate fillings.

“What sort of fillings have you tried?”

Floyd: I started with shrimp and cheese! Then it was sausage, oyster…

Tomato, broccoli, strawberries, fresh cream, chocolate, anchovies, potato salad, konjac…

“That's some variety.”

Floyd: Yep, yep. Eventually, it became a competition to see who could make the craziest one possible… it was dope ‘cuz they all tasted terrible!

But we made sure to eat them all ‘cuz Azul would’ve scolded us if we had wasted any food.

You’ve gotta join us next time, Shrimpy-chan. Promise?

Birthday Suit 2

“You keep your collar unbuttoned a lot. Do you not like wearing it closed?”

Floyd: More like, it’s irritating so I don’t wanna. Strangling people's my specialty, not the other way around.

I couldn’t stand wearing clothes when we first came on land. It felt like I aaalways had seaweed clinging to my entire body.

Plus, as soon as you wear something, you’ve gotta throw it in the wash.

I couldn’t figure out why humans were totally wasting their time with such tedious chores.

But now I like picking out what to wear. Getting to wear so many different colors is fun.

Hey, Shrimpy-chan, did you know? In the middle of the ocean, all the fancy hues from up here look so dark and gloomy.

Clothes, shoes, and even accessories… all that stylish stuff’s great, right?

Though the more you buy, the more your room starts to shrink.

I asked Jade to lend me some space since he always keeps his side real neat, but he instantly told me “no”. 

Aw, man. Think they’ll ever give us another room for storage?

“Is there anything you like to collect?”

Floyd: Hmm, well, Jade’s into plants and Azul has his coin collection, but…

I’d probably just lose interest in that stuff… —oh, yeah.

I’m not collecting them or anything, but I bought some moray eel merchandise the other day

“What kind of stuff did you buy?”

Floyd: A t-shirt with a cutesy eel drawn on it and a keychain charm of one with a stupid face.

There’s this legend that says the Sea Witch had a “very capable pair of moray eels”, and in the sea, they’re seen as cruel, being predators and all.

So it’s totally funny to see all this weirdly cute merchandise being sold up here.

That’s what they look like through a human’s eyes, huh.

Jade was stoked to wear one of those t-shirts I bought when I gave it to him, ahah.

But Azul said, “Don’t you dare go out wearing that”. Heartless, am I right? Especially when they’re this cute.

Birthday Suit 3

“Happy Birthday” - Floyd Leech

Location: Octavinelle Dorm - Birthday Party Venue

“Which do you like best: being a human or a merman?”

Floyd: I didn’t get how to use two tails when we first turned human, and my body was seriously heavy… 

I was like, screw this, I wanna turn back into a merman and get straight back into the ocean right now.

 

But l got to thinking lately that maybe it’s not so bad.

You can meet all kinds of people on campus, unlike in the Coral Sea where there were only merpeople and fish.

So that’s why I’m not bored one bit.

Theeeen…. there’s all the stuff that’s fun because you can’t do it underwater… like basketball and dancing.

Now I’m crazy about parkour.

“What’s parkour?”

Floyd: You don’t know? It’s a sport where you slide on handrails and kick-off walls to climb up buildings...

You’ve gotta head for the goal while avoiding any obstacles that might stop you.

“Sounds difficult.”

Floyd: Whether it’s hard or not’s never crossed my mind.

I’ve been into obstacle courses and stuff ever since I was a kid.

“An obstacle course in the ocean…?”

Floyd: Yep. We’d pick a goal to aim for and swim along a set route through a sunken ship.

There’s tons of broken stuff all over the place in there that can get in your way.

You’ve gotta dodge with a minimal amount of movement so your speed doesn’t drop.

The fastest one to reach the goal wins!

… well? Sounds kinda like parkour, right? That’s why I’m so into it.

Learning a new trick makes me happy, and best of all, it’s actually fun since it’s like swimming.

There’s no strategy or right way to do it either, so the whole thing’s like… kinda freeing, I guess?

I can’t stand strict stuff like rules, so…

Ah, but there was that one time the teacher got real mad at me when I parkoured into the classroom straight through a window after I’d overslept.

But like, aren’t I awesome for trying my hardest not to be late? Next time I just won’t get caught~, ahah.
