scary monsters ~screaming halloween~. 1-2 "our celebration!!"

Location: Ramshackle Dorm

Lilia: What a shock… To think someone who doesn’t know about Halloween actually exists!

Grim: Is this Halloween thing seriously that mainstream?

Ghost B: Of course! Halloween’s one of the most important events in Twisted Wonderland.

In other words… it’s our very own celebration!!

Grim: When you say ours, you mean… for ghosts?

Lilia: Indeed.

Halloween is held every year on October the 31st. It's the day when ghosts that crossed over come back from the afterlife.

Unlike these three still tied to the world of the living…

It’s said that all ghosts will visit our world on Halloween, or on October the 31st.

And so we prepare gorgeous decorations and delicacies in order to entertain our guests who’ve made their way here.

Moreover, it’s important to dress like a horrific monster or ghost.

Grim: Dress up? Why?

Ghost A: There’s no guarantee all of ‘em are gonna be as well-behaved as we are.

Ghost B: They might tie the strings of your shoes together or even switch the sugar and salt in the kitchen…

Ghost C: Flip all your t-shirts inside-out, use up all the ink in your pens…

Ghost A: There's ghosts who'll pull those sort of pranks all the time on Halloween.

Ghost B: They can’t resist messing with people when there’s no one to hang out with in the afterlife.

Ghost A: There’s no way you wouldn’t be hyped after getting to be in this world for the first time in forever.

Grim: Those are some pretty cheap-sounding pranks.

Lilia: Kufufu. Adorable, isn’t it?

Those prank-loving ghosts will usually scatter if you offer them treats.

Though at times there tend to be unruly spirits bent on evil among their ranks.

You recall what wicked ghosts are like, yes?

An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, and a ghost for a ghost.

The costumes are significant in that they can be used to ward off those evil spirits and scare them away.

… or at least they were in ancient times, but now we don them like cosplay simply because it’s fun!

Grim: Now your story’s just tacky!

Ghost A: Yeah. So don’t read into it too much.

Ghost C: Halloween’s been like this for ages now, since before we became ghosts ourselves.

Ghost B: The living can’t actually see ghosts, so October 31st’s when we get to really let loose.

Just remember that Halloween’s a “great day to celebrate with everybody” and don’t overthink it!

Grim: Hmm, hmm. A great day, huh…

… uh, “they can’t see ghosts”? What d’ya mean? Aren’t you here right now?

Lilia: Ghosts are meant to cross over despite some having lingering attachments that tie them to this world.

Hence why those still wandering here remain terribly unstable existences.

They’re incapable of being seen unless one’s at a location where magical energy is concentrated, like Night Raven College.

Grim: Seriouslyyyy? I totally thought you’d be able to see tons of ‘em hanging around off campus…

Ghost A: Hee hee hee. We’re actually super rare.

Ghost B: Not that it matters if people can see us or not.

Ghost A: He’s right. What really matters here is Halloween's fun.

Lilia: Precisely. I also tend to get inappropriately excited for my age this time of year.

Ghost B: All right. Let’s shout it loud, guys!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Grim: T-They’re really gettin’ into this…

Hey, Yuu. You ever heard of this Halloween thing before?

> Of course I have.

> It’s pretty popular back home.

Ghost B: Does that mean they celebrate Halloween in your world?

Ghost A: Now that’s unexpected.

Lilia: Even if the customs of humans, fey, and ghosts may differ… all races know well of Halloween’s tradition.

It may not be all that unusual for them to celebrate it in Yuu’s world as well.

Grim: Halloween’s really that special of a day, huh?

… I’m gettin’ kinda excited myself after hearing about how awesome it is!

Lilia: Right? And what’s even more exhilarating is the “special event” Night Raven College has planned.

Grim: What special event?

Lilia: Oh, you didn’t know?

… well, we still have a month until Halloween. I’m sure your teacher will describe the details tomorrow!
